Share your story

Content marketing for Artists

Remember when I said that effective arts marketing inspires a connection between you, your brand and your work? Well, the most powerful way to do this is via the stories you tell in your marketing.

As a creative artist, a musician, a maker or performer, there is a story at the core of each piece of work you create, each song you write and each performance you give. But I like to think of them more as *opportunities*.

Who, what, how, where and why

In marketing circles, this is called your ‘why’ (thanks Simon Sinek), but it’s also what gives your work life. It’s what makes it – and you – relatable (and irresistible!).

In today’s values-based economy, more and more consumers are driven to make purchase decisions because their values and beliefs align with those of the brands they buy from, so the way we share those values is so important.

A perfect online portfolio just isn’t going to cut it in today’s competitive, creative marketplace.

So, when we work together, I’ll help you uncover and share your most compelling brand stories that will make what you do irresistibly delectable, and attract the types of customers that are *perfect* for you.

Read of for more marketing tips for artists, performers, makers and musicians like you.

How do you share your story?

Unsure where to start? If you need more art marketing ideas, you’re in the right place.  There are many ways to share your story online, and two of the best ways are via your blog and video, on your website and on social media.

Your story is also at the core of your website copy but that deserves its very own space on my site. Feel free to check out what that’s all about afterwards.

Don't know what to blog about? I got you covered.

You’ve got your fingers poised over the keyboard and the cursor is blinking at you, but when it comes to blogging you have no.freaking.idea what to write about.

It feels like all the content has already been written and you don’t just want to do more of the same. If you’re looking for a flash of inspiration and are comfortable writing your own blogs, then this session is perfect for you. I’ll provide that inspiration to get you going again.

It’s a no-holds-barred, no-strings-attached, honest and informative chat. You’ll walk away with a blog calendar with 12 months’ worth of content ideas for the next year. What a clever investment that is!

How it works

I’ll send you an invite to join me on a Zoom conference call and chat for 30 minutes where we discuss the best ways to provide helpful content your customers love.

What's included
  • Copy of the recorded Zoom chat (so you can revisit it later)
  • A blog content calendar with ideas, populated and ready for you to start writing
  • A sneaky peak into how I write my blogs (and some of my favourite tools)
  • Some handy search engine optimisation (SEO) tricks to help you come up with blogs that also help your website rank
To prepare

Send me the links to your website and blog, links to your social profiles, an example email newsletter and anything else you’re using to market your business.

I’ll review it all before our session, so you know I’m not coming in cold.

Blog writing with Ali Strachan
You don’t love writing (but you know it's going to build your brand)

I know you’ve already got your plate full. And if you’re honest, you’re not sure you’re cut out to create top-quality blogs that are going to give you the returns you need from them.

Lucky for you – I’m your secret word-wielding weapon.

Blog articles are the perfect space for you to share your story and give them an insight into what it means to create the things you do. They can answer common customer FAQs, position you as a thought-leader and humanise your brand.

And a good blog strategy will help your site get found on Google. Yew!

How it works
  1. If you’ve got topics in mind, I’ll give you a ballpark quote to approve. Or if you’re unsure – we can chat about what questions and what issues your customers regularly encounter, so you can create valuable content they’ll love.
  2. I’ll whip up proposal agreement for you to approve and an invoice so you can secure your spot in my calendar. Easy as pie.
  3. Then we’ll schedule a thirty-minute chat, to confirm what you want covered, the tone, the length and any research or interviews you’d love me to conduct.
  4. I’ll set up the project in Trello, so you can track the progress and see the sources of the info I find for your article.
  5. Time to research, confirm keywords and start writing.
What's included
  • An easy-to-read, engaging and researched article that aligns with your brief
  • 30 minute chat to kick off the project and 15 minutes of check-in time each draft

  • 5 social media snippets to help with shareability
  • 1 Call to Action – to ask readers to contact you regarding an offer or similar
  • 1 Skeleton Draft, 1 Main draft, 2 rounds of amends and proofreading

Your questions, answered frankly

I’ve answered many of the common questions I get here,

but if you have another, just holler.

Can you put together a custom package for me?

You betcha. The prices and packages I list on my website aren't one-size-fits-all marketing solutions for every business. Every industry is unique and different things work in different scenarios, for different target markets.

If you're unsure what you might need, we can have a quick chat to uncover what your goals are, and what content you already have and I can put a package together for you. Or, for a more in depth one-one-one session you might like to book in a thirty or sixty-minute strategy session.

How do I book you?

First of all, I'm so bleedin' excited you want to work with me! Second, for a quick response give me a call on 0415 272 150 and if I'm not with a client - I'll give you a call straight back. Or send me a message via my contact page with the content you need, and I'll respond as soon as I can so we can discuss what you need.

I've never worked with an arts marketer before, how does it work?

There's nothing worse than working with someone who doesn't have a clear process and is able to lead you through your project, so you know what you're getting, when and for how much.

Arts marketing and strategy is a collaborative and creative process, so here's what you can expect when we work together:

  1. Our project starts with a chat about your creative business and your marketing needs.
  2. If I don't have all the info I need from this call, I'll send you a link to my Project Discovery Form so I can give you a more accurate quote.
  3. You accept the quote and I draw up a Proposal with all the project details, my T&C's and costs for you to approve. Also included will be the scope, the timelines and deposit details.
  4. I'll issue my invoice and book your project into my schedule.
  5. I issue my Project Questionnaire  so I can get to know your business, its target market, how you work and what you create inside and out.
  6. I create a Trello board and invite you to keep track of the project and it's deliverables. Everything is transparent so you can see how I work.
  7. I book in another briefing call (if needed) to clarify any further details
  8. Then I get researching and writing!
  9. In most cases you get a first draft, two rounds of amends and proofreading included.
  10. When you're happy with the content, we've dotted all our i's and crossed our x's and t's and everything has been paid for - you can start using the content.

Got a question? Happy to answer them as we go. Check out my about page for more on me and how I work.

Do you work with brands outside the arts industry?

I sure do. While I love working with creatives, I also have a lot of experience working with brands within all sorts of industries. Want to know more about who I've worked with and what results I've had? Check out my testimonials.
